Type 1 diabetes meal plan, carbs counted for you.
There is no single carb amount that suits everyone with type 1 diabetes. What helps is counting carbs and matching insulin to them. This week keeps every meal and snack at 45 to 60 grams of carbs, with the total shown.
Built from ADA Standards of Care advice.

The rules
Three habits that make carbs easier
Count, then match insulin
Carbs on the plate, insulin to cover them, as your team taught you.
Keep meal timing steady
Regular times can make glucose patterns easier to read.
Carry 15 g of fast carbs
Glucose tablets or juice, for a low. Then recheck in 15 minutes.
Sample week
Seven days at 45 to 60 g of carbs a meal
About 1,750 to 1,950 calories a day, 45 to 60 g of carbs per meal. Scale portions to your needs. Find your number
Your insulin doses and carb targets come from your diabetes care team. Never change insulin based on this page. If you take insulin, check with them before you move your carbs around.

Questions
What people ask
How many carbs should I eat with type 1 diabetes?
The ADA says there is no single ideal amount. What matters is that your insulin matches the carbs you eat. This plan uses 45 to 60 g a meal as its own choice, not an ADA target. Your care team sets your target, because it depends on your insulin plan, size and activity.
How many calories is this meal plan?
About 1,750 to 1,950 calories a day, with 200 to 230 grams of carbs and 27 to 41 grams of fiber. Each meal shows its own carbs so you can match insulin to it. Scale a portion and the carbs change, so recount if you do.
Is it OK to skip meals with type 1 diabetes?
That depends on your insulin. If you take mealtime insulin, skipping food can cause a low, and the right move depends on your doses. Ask your care team how to handle a missed meal before you try it.
What do I do if my blood sugar drops?
Follow the ADA's 15-15 rule: eat or drink 15 g of fast-acting carbs, such as 4 glucose tablets or ½ cup of juice, wait 15 minutes, then check again. Repeat if it is still low. Once your glucose is back in range, ask your care team whether you need a snack or meal.
Which carbs are better for blood sugar?
Whole grains, beans, vegetables and whole fruit come with fiber, which tends to slow the glucose rise compared with refined carbs. This week uses whole-grain bread and pasta, brown rice, oats, lentils, beans and fruit, with at least 27 g of fiber a day.
Is a low-carb diet better for type 1 diabetes?
Not automatically. The ADA says there is no ideal carb amount for everyone, and lower-carb plans can work for some people with the right insulin plan and support. They can also raise the risk of lows and need more planning. Talk to your diabetes team before changing your carb target.
Can Alma help me count carbs?
Yes. Log a meal by photo, voice or text in about 10 seconds, and every meal gets an Alma Score from 0 to 100 that draws on Harvard's Alternate Healthy Eating Index. Alma builds a plan around your goal and the foods you like, and the meal log keeps the carb picture in one place.
