Prediabetes meal plan, carbs spread evenly.
Prediabetes means your blood sugar runs higher than normal, but not yet in the diabetes range. This week keeps carbs steady at every meal and pairs them with protein and fiber, at 1,400 to 1,530 calories a day. Alma can fit it to your goal.
Built from CDC, NIDDK and ADA guidance advice.

The rules
Three habits do most of the work
Build the plate the same way
Half non-starchy vegetables, a quarter protein, a quarter slow carbs.
Keep carbs steady per meal
Lunch and dinner land near 35 to 55 grams of carbs each.
Make fiber the default
Beans, oats, barley and berries show up most days.
Sample week
Seven days of prediabetes meals
About 1,400 to 1,530 calories a day. Scale portions to your needs. Find your number
If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea, changing how many carbs you eat can cause low blood sugar. Check with your care team before you change your meals. This plan is general information, not medical advice.

Questions
What people ask
What should I eat if I have prediabetes?
Build meals around non-starchy vegetables, protein and slow carbs like beans, oats, barley and quinoa. The CDC describes the plate method as a starting point: half the plate vegetables, a quarter protein, a quarter carbs. This week follows that shape at every meal.
How many carbs should I eat at each meal?
There is no single number that fits everyone. Lunch and dinner in this plan land between 35 and 55 grams of carbs, breakfast and snacks are smaller, and the day totals about 135 to 169 grams. Your care team can tell you what target fits your body, your medication and how your blood sugar responds.
Is this a low-carb meal plan?
No. It's a moderate-carb plan with carbs spread across four meals, not cut out. Beans, whole grains and fruit stay in because they bring fiber, which this plan leans on.
Do I have to eat snacks?
No. The snack is there to keep the gap between lunch and dinner from getting long. If you don't want it, move those calories into lunch or dinner, or keep a piece of fruit for the afternoon.
Can prediabetes change with diet and activity?
NIDDK points to research such as the Diabetes Prevention Program on lowering the chance of type 2 diabetes. In that study, a lifestyle program of eating changes and at least 30 minutes of activity 5 days a week lowered the chance of type 2 diabetes. Ask your care team when to repeat your A1C.
How many calories is this meal plan?
About 1,400 to 1,530 calories a day, with about 82 to 100 grams of protein and about 28 to 37 grams of fiber. If you need more or less, scale the portions and keep all four meals, so carbs stay even.
How does Alma help with prediabetes?
Log a meal by photo, voice or text in about 10 seconds, and Alma shows you the carbs, fiber and protein it estimated. Each meal gets an Alma Score from 0 to 100, drawing on Harvard's Alternate Healthy Eating Index, so you can see which meals fit the pattern this page describes.
