Questions

What people ask

What should I eat if I have PCOS?

Regular meals built on vegetables, beans, whole grains, fish, eggs and olive oil, with fiber and protein at each one. The 2023 International PCOS Guideline found no special PCOS diet, so this week looks like a normal balanced plan.

Is there a best diet for PCOS?

No. The 2023 International PCOS Guideline, led by Monash University, looked at the evidence and found no single diet pattern works better than another for PCOS. It recommends healthy eating that fits your preferences and needs over a strict plan you stop after a month.

Should I cut carbs with PCOS?

Not to zero. Whole grains, beans and fruit bring fiber, which is one reason this plan leans on them. If you want fewer carbs, keep the slow ones, shrink the portion, and pair them with protein.

Do I need to avoid dairy or gluten with PCOS?

Not unless you react to them. The 2023 guideline found no one diet works best, and dropping whole food groups makes a plan harder to keep up. If you notice symptoms after certain foods, track them for a couple of weeks and bring the notes to your clinician.

Does diet help PCOS symptoms?

Food is one part of care, alongside activity, sleep, medication and the rest of your plan with your clinician. Symptoms and cycles vary a lot from person to person, so the honest answer is that a steady eating pattern is worth doing and no single food will change everything on its own.

How many calories is this meal plan?

About 1,380 to 1,520 calories a day, with about 110 to 168 grams of carbs and about 25 to 34 grams of fiber. If you need more or less, scale the portions of grains, oils and protein, and keep all four meals.

How does Alma help with PCOS?

Log a meal by photo, voice or text in about 10 seconds, and Alma estimates the carbs, fiber and protein. Every meal gets an Alma Score from 0 to 100, drawing on Harvard's Alternate Healthy Eating Index, so a steady week with beans, fish and greens is easy to see at a glance.
