2,000 calorie meal plan, with pasta on Monday.

Two thousand calories is the reference number on US nutrition labels, and it leaves room for pasta, bread and milk. Here is a week of 28 meals at about 2,000 calories a day, built from ordinary food. Alma can fit it to your goal.

Built from Dietary Guidelines and FDA advice.

  • Protein at every meal

20 to 50 g a meal, from eggs, chicken, fish, beef or beans.

Questions

What people ask

How many calories is this meal plan?

About 1,945 to 2,030 calories a day, with 110 to 150 grams of protein and 21 to 41 grams of fiber. Every meal is estimated from USDA FoodData Central values for the portions listed, so a home portion may land a little higher.

Why is 2,000 calories the number on food labels?

The FDA uses 2,000 calories a day as the reference for general nutrition advice on Nutrition Facts labels, and some % Daily Values, like fat and fiber, are set against it. It is a round reference number, not a target for every person.

Is 2,000 calories right for me?

It depends on your size, age and activity. The 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines estimate that women need about 1,600 to 2,400 calories a day and men about 2,000 to 3,000, from sedentary to active. Use the calorie calculator for a starting number, then adjust by how you feel.

Can I eat pasta and bread on 2,000 calories?

Yes. This week has spaghetti, pasta salad, a burrito, sandwiches and cornbread, all in portions of 1 to 1½ cups or one bun. The 2025-2030 Dietary Guidelines say to prioritize fiber-rich whole grains, so choose whole-grain versions when you can.

How much protein is in this plan?

About 110 to 150 grams a day, spread over four meals. The Dietary Guidelines suggest 1.2 to 1.6 grams per kilogram of body weight, so scale to your size. Eggs, chicken, turkey, fish, beef, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese and beans carry it, with no need for shakes.

What are good snacks at 2,000 calories?

Between 215 and 315 calories with some protein or fiber: yogurt with granola, hummus with pita and carrots, popcorn with almonds and raisins, cottage cheese with fruit, or almonds with an apple. One snack a day is built in here, which keeps the three meals generous.

Is this plan good for a family?

The meals are written for one adult and scale up easily. Cook the chili, enchiladas or pasta for everyone and let each person take the portion that fits them. Children need different amounts, so check with their pediatrician if you are unsure.

How does Alma help with a 2,000 calorie plan?

Log a meal by photo, voice or text in about 10 seconds, and every meal gets an Alma Score from 0 to 100, drawing on Harvard's Alternate Healthy Eating Index. Alma builds a plan around your goal and the foods you like, so 2,000 calories fits the way you already eat.
