Salt to sodium calculator
A UK label may list salt. A US label may list sodium. Compare the same amount, in the right units.
How this tool works
For food-label comparisons, salt in grams is approximately sodium in grams × 2.5. Convert milligrams to grams first. The serving multiplier scales both values to the portion you eat.A worked example
400 mg sodium is about 1 g salt. If the label is for one serving and you eat two, the portion contains about 800 mg sodium or 2 g salt. Before you use the result
This is a labeling conversion, not advice to add salt. It does not apply to potassium-based salt substitutes. Medical sodium limits, exercise-related losses, and fluid restrictions need individual guidance. Is sodium the same as salt?
No. Sodium is one component of sodium chloride. The 2.5 multiplier is the conventional approximate label conversion. Can I compare per-100-g labels?
Yes. Use 0.5 servings for 50 g, 1 for 100 g, or 1.5 for 150 g when the original label is per 100 g.Sources
