Food ideas and checks
- Oats
- Porridge, overnight oats or a yogurt topping. Compare price per weight, not just pack price.
- Beans or lentils
- Soup, chili, wraps or pasta sauce. Canned saves time; dried needs cooking.
- Rice or another grain
- A base for bowls and leftovers. Choose a grain you enjoy and know how to cook.
- Frozen vegetables
- Add a handful to soup or a stir-fry. Plain versions leave seasonings up to you.
- Eggs or tofu
- Scrambles, sandwiches or rice bowls. Pick for your preferences and local prices.
- Canned tomatoes
- Turn beans or lentils into a sauce. Compare sodium across similar cans.
- Seasonal fruit
- Breakfast, snacks or a simple dessert. Frozen fruit can also be useful.
- Yogurt or fortified soy drink
- Breakfast or a sauce base. Check the label; products are not nutritionally identical.
